Our Mission

To be good stewards of our nation’s forests, natural resources, and to protect life and property from harms way.

Company VisionTo be leaders and innovators in the fuels and fire industry, continually aspiring to the highest levels of professionalism; providing the highest quality service and product to our customers at a fair price, without compromise towards safety and excellence. To provide long-term employment and family wage jobs to our employees, in an environment that promotes integrity, honesty, and an excellence in work ethic built on a strong foundation that will last many generations to come, a bright light upon a hill. “A good name is better than great riches: To be esteemed is better than silver or gold.”
Proverbs 22:1

Core ValuesTo be united in the higher calling of people helping people, a team that is other’s centered, willing to serve rather than be served. It is better to give than to receive. “Let each esteem others better than himself.”
Phil 2:3

About

In 1993 Grayback Forestry, Inc., formed an emergency service division specializing in emergency services and mobile showers. In 2002, Western Emergency Services, LLC was formed. A novation of the National Contract was completed in 2003 from Grayback Forestry to Western Emergency Services to reflect the change of operation. In 2008, Grayback Forestry purchased a fifty percent interest in Western Emergency Services. Grayback Forestry has been incorporated in the State of Oregon since 1979, specializing in fuels management, mechanical thinning, wildfire suppression, and emergency services. Company owned office/shop complexes are located in Merlin, White City, Canyon City, and La Grande, Oregon. Outside of the Pacific Northwest we have a shop/office in Missoula, Montana. From these strategic locations, we have built a solid infrastructure, enabling us to provide quality services to the agencies. Grayback has been a leader and innovator in the fuels management and fire suppression industry since the private sector first started entering the market. Our company is a founding member of the National Wildfire Suppression Association, through which we provide nationally recognized forestry and wildfire suppression training that meets or exceeds the National Wildfire Coordination Group 310-1 standards.

Wildfire Suppression and Emergency Services dovetail with our Fuels Management services. We deploy personnel and equipment throughout the nation and supply up to 15 – 20 person type 2 and 2-IA crews. Grayback treats fuels on over 20,000 acres of land annually utilizing prescribed burning, underburn, broadcast burn, wildlife burns, manual cutting, handpiling, and other methods. Our fuels treatment services have been performed for the BLM, Forest Service, National Park Service, Fish and Wildlife, Oregon State, and many different private agencies throughout the Pacific Northwest. These treatments have been in most fuel types and levels of complexity. Adapting our services to meet each customer’s objectives has been our goal. We have successfully completed all contracts that have been awarded within a timeframe and quality level that has met or exceeded customer requirements and expectations.
